The reopening of the Nelson Market this Saturday is an important part of the region’s economic recovery from Covid-19, says Nelson MP Nick Smith.

“The Nelson market is an iconic part of our culture and tourism sector. Its reopening is an important milestone in the region’s recovery from Covid-19. I hope Nelsonians will come to the Market this Saturday to support the dozens of small businesses. It has been a tough time, there are few visitors about and they need local support to recover and rebuild.

“I commend Nita Knight and the stall holders for their responsible approach before and during lockdown that like so many Nelson businesses, involved sacrifice to help Nelson beat Covid-19.

“I substituted being at the Nelson Market with a live Facebook chat to keep in touch during the lockdown but there is nothing like face to face contact. My caravan has been revamped with new solar panels, laptop connection, safety step and a leak fixed in my absence. I will be returning to my loading zone spot in the south-west corner and am looking forward to the forecast sunny weather.”

Anyone wanting to make an appointment to see Nick can call the office on 547 2314 or email on nick4nelson@parliament.govt.nz

Appointments are scheduled from 8.30-10am and 11-12.30pm with a coffee chat drop in time between 10 and 11am. Hand sanitiser will be available at the caravan and everyone is encouraged to use safe practices.
