More Nelson locals will have access to faster and more reliable internet, says Nelson MP Nick Smith.
“The expansion of ultra-fast broadband is important to Nelson’s economic and social development. We are challenged by our topography in getting improved services to all parts of the region but today’s announcement ensures we make further progress. This is part of a nation-wide programme that will extend UFB to 151 additional towns and 43 suburban fringe areas.
“$300,000 will be spent bringing fibre access to The Brook area and a total of over 400 people while $10.6 million will be spent bringing fibre access to six areas in Tasman, and a total of over 15,000 people. The expansion includes Brightwater, Wakefield, Ruby Bay, Kaiteriteri, Motueka and Takaka.
“This work will be progressively completed over the next five years with the benefits flowing to businesses and well as local education and health services.
“New Zealand is internationally recognised for having one of the highest levels of internet connectivity. This expansion of UFB will ensure that more Nelsonians get the benefit of these new information technologies” Dr Smith says.
